Our Philosophy

We are two parents, a mom and a dad, who set out to raise the healthiest, most robust child we could. That single goal is what pulled us into months of reading studies late at night, comparing sources, and talking through every decision we would face around birth. The deeper we went, the clearer one thing became: what happens around birth, and the choices parents make, genuinely matter.

So we built this: a tool and a body of research to help you make and communicate informed decisions. Not out of fear. Not out of pressure. Just with your eyes open, so the choices are truly yours.

Why We Care So Much About This

It started with a simple wish that every parent knows: we wanted our baby to be healthy. Not just to survive the delivery, but to get the gentlest possible start and the strongest possible foundation. That wish turned out to be a doorway. To answer it honestly, we had to understand what actually happens in those first hours and days, and why.

One of us is an engineer, the other a lawyer. One read the studies and pieced together the pros and cons of every decision. The other pushed back, asked hard questions, and poked holes in every conclusion. We did not agree on everything right away. But we worked through each decision as a team, and by the time labor came, we understood our options and knew what we wanted.

The more we learned, the more amazed we were. The way a body knows how to grow a baby and time labor. The way colostrum changes composition in the first days to match exactly what a newborn needs. The way skin-to-skin contact regulates a baby's temperature and heart rate. The female body is extraordinary, and the science is still catching up to how much it already gets right. We came away with real awe, and with a conviction that these early choices deserve careful, informed attention.

Why These Choices Matter

The choices made during pregnancy and childbirth lead to different outcomes. Different approaches carry different risks, different benefits, and different trade-offs. Some interventions are life-saving in one situation and unnecessary in another. Some common practices have solid evidence behind them. Others are more about hospital convenience or older protocols.

This is not about blame, and it is never about saying that a hard outcome was someone's fault. Birth is unpredictable, and sometimes the very best decisions still do not lead to the outcome we hoped for. There is no shame in any birth outcome. What we believe is simpler and gentler than blame: going into one of the most significant experiences of your life informed, understanding your options, and knowing the questions to ask is worth the effort.

The goal that really matters is a healthy baby and a healthy mom. That is the win. But healthy also means a mother who feels respected and heard, a baby who gets a gentle entry into the world when circumstances allow, and a family that comes away feeling empowered rather than steamrolled.

How We Approach the Evidence

We are not anti-doctor. We are pro-informed-consent. That distinction shapes everything here. Here is how we try to earn your trust.

Both sides of every decision

  • For every major decision, we lay out what the mainstream recommendation is, and then what is often left unsaid: the nuances, the alternatives, and the research that complicates the simple answer.
  • Every intervention has trade-offs. Nothing is automatically right or wrong. The right choice depends on your situation, your values, and your informed understanding of both sides.
  • Most of these decisions are genuinely value judgments with no single right answer. Where the evidence does point clearly in one direction, we will tell you that too. We are not going to hide behind false balance, and we are not going to sugarcoat it.

Cited, honest, and yours to verify

  • We are not making things up, and we are not relying on blog posts or influencers. When we say there is evidence for something, we point you to the studies so you can verify it yourself and bring it to your provider.
  • We defend your right to make an informed choice, and we police misinformation just as hard. We will debunk a viral scare by name and flag an untested theory as untested, even when it is one you may have read online.
  • This is not medical advice. We are not doctors, and we are not pretending to be. It is a consolidation of the research, organized so ordinary parents can actually use it.

What We Believe About You

You have the right to ask questions. You have the right to understand why something is being recommended. You have the right to say no, to ask for more time, and to get a second opinion. These are not acts of defiance. They are acts of engaged participation in your own care. The best relationships with a provider are partnerships, where they share their expertise and you make the final call based on your values and your informed understanding.

At the end of the day, you are the one who takes this baby home. Your provider will move on to the next patient. But you will be raising this child for the next eighteen years and beyond. That is why we will never tell you what to decide, and never make you feel small for the choice you land on. Our job is to give you the full picture. Yours is to choose what is right for your family.

Whatever you decide, make it informed, intentional, and yours. Your birth. Your body. Your baby. Your choice.

Start With Your Own Plan

The best way to use what we have built is to walk through the decisions yourself. Answer a few questions, see both sides of each choice, and generate a clear plan to share with your birth team.
